This Cougar Mountain residence required a reliable backup power solution for a home with larger electrical demands. Rather than opting for an expensive whole-home load transfer design, Sound Power designed an efficient system centered around a dedicated essential-load backup panel.

This cost-effective approach ensures the most important circuits stay powered during utility outages without the added expense of backing up the entire home's electrical load. The system was engineered to prioritize essential circuits while maintaining reliable operation and easy serviceability.

From the exterior service equipment and transfer components to the interior load center organization, this installation was built for clean layout, dependable operation, and long-term serviceability. This Discovery Park residence features a refined custom lighting package designed to complement the home's clean modern architecture and high-end finishes. Our scope focused on layered lighting that improves both everyday function and the overall feel of the space.

We installed carefully placed recessed lighting, decorative pendant fixtures, and architectural accent lighting throughout the kitchen and bath. A standout feature is the custom LED detail work, including illuminated niche lighting in the shower for a seamless luxury finish.

Additional improvements included integrated toe-kick lighting in the kitchen to add depth, warmth, and a subtle floating effect to the cabinetry. These custom low-profile lighting elements were selected to enhance the home's visual lines while providing soft ambient illumination.

We also refined the lighting layout for better balance across task, accent, and general lighting zones, helping create a space that feels bright, intentional, and comfortable at every hour of the day.

Sound Power installed this 22 kW Generac automatic standby generator with a dedicated generator subpanel for selected essential circuits. This design provides efficient load management by directing backup power to the systems that matter most—including lighting, refrigeration, heating equipment, communications, and designated fire and sprinkler systems— without requiring the generator to support every electrical load in the building.

When utility power is interrupted, the automatic transfer switch detects the outage, starts the generator, and safely transfers the selected circuits to standby power. Once utility service returns, the system automatically reconnects the building to the utility and shuts the generator down.

The completed installation includes clearly labeled main and generator panels, an exterior service-rated automatic transfer switch, coordinated emergency disconnecting equipment, and a permanently installed natural-gas generator. This approach delivers reliable, automatic backup power while controlling generator size, fuel demand, and overall installation cost.
